Why? 6-Week Sermon Series
When the ground shakes, when the waters rise, washing away a community’s hopes and dreams; when a child suffers neglect and abuse; when violence tears apart communities, where is God? If God is all powerful, then how can God allows tragedy and suffering to exist? Does God have my whole life planned out for me? Do my decisions make a difference? Why should I trust God when nothing seems to make sense?

Pastor Edgar launches a 6-week sermon series beginning June 23rd that will brings fresh insight from the Bible to the age-old question of how to understand the will of God. Rejecting simplistic answers and unexamined assumptions, he lays out the Biblical principles for comprehending God’s plan for the world, including God will not take away our free will. God will never abandon us especially in the midst of our suffering. While God is not the author of suffering, God will bring blessing out of tragedy.
June 23- “Why?”
June 30- “Why Am I Here?”
July 7- “Why Do the Innocent Suffer?”
July 14- “Why Do my Prayers Go Unanswered?”
July 21- “Why Can’t I See God’s Will for My Life?”
July 28- “Why God’s Love Prevails?”

Please make plans to attend a very special missions presentation. Davis Street U.M.C. will host Joe and Vivian Peebles on Sunday, July 7th in the Fellowship Hall at 9:50 a.m. Joe grew up in Burlington, then joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ (now CRU) after graduating from NCSU. He and Vivian worked in campus ministry in SC for 4 years, then they followed the Lord’s leading to Asia, spending 4 years in Guam and 24 years in China. Even after they returned to this area to care for their parents, God continues to use them in Asia – in Mongolia, Thailand, Cambodia, Taiwan, and Nepal. Come hear some amazing stories of how God can use ordinary people to “make disciples of all nations.”
Joe will share a brief “missions moment” in our 10:55 service, but you will want to hear more of the Lord’s impact in and through their lives. Join us in the Fellowship Hall at 9:50, and bring a friend!
